The Palm of My Hand

As It Is Written…

“I have written your name on the palm of my hand.”
Isaiah 49:16

The Torah tells us in the “Shema” that our actions speak louder than our words.  The “Shema” is the first part of Jesus’ answer to the lawyer who asks him, “Teacher, which commandment is the greatest?”

Much can be said for “what is written on the palms of our hands.”  Isaiah’s statement speaks to God’s commitment to each atom of creation.

We can apply the same commitment to our own lives.  I look at the palms of my hands and see the many names I have written there… those people – family, friends, associates, dogs – who I have committed myself to.  It is good practice to write those names physically and figuratively on the palms of your hands and honor the commitment you have made to each.

I have written your name on the palm of my hand.
