The Final Chapter

For 25 years, I’ve carried a list of ideas for novels and other books. Following the publication of my last novel, The Faith of Job in 2021, and my book of reflections in 2024, I started and stopped several manuscripts. Unlike Stephen King and Steven Pressfield, my powers of concentration are waning. Similarly, 25 years ago I could type 50 words a minute; today I hunt and peck, and would be lucky to produce 10 words a minute. I’ve conquered the slow typing by incorporating voice access into my writing regimen. I am writing this post — like I did this book— with voice access rather than typing with my fingers.

In recent months I’ve been inspired to write a final book. I call it The Vitruvian Man’s Christian Book of Hours. I watch with great interest and satisfaction as all my children find their way back to Christianity. Each one attends church regularly. This year I have found renewed strength in the Eucharist. For the first time in 60 years, I sought reconciliation in the Sacrament of Confirmation. It has brought me peace. The final push came from my friend Abel. Last summer, he invited me to join him and his family in a weekly Bible study.

Dissimilar to the book of hours I published in 2021, all the entries in this book are taken from the Bible. It is a prayer guide to use three times each day, at sunrise, at midday and sunset. Each time of the day includes four readings from scripture. The Vitruvian Man’s Christian Book of Hours is now available through all online book retailers both as a paperback, and as a hardcover copy.

Whether you pray daily, infrequently, or never, I wrote this book for you. May the Lord bless you and keep you.
